FAQ

  • What Are PDO Threads?
PDO threads are thin, biodegradable, synthetic suture materials made of polydioxanone to anchor the sagging facial skin and fat tissue, providing and adding support for the underlying structures of the face for a noticeable lift. PDO threads offer a unique blend of skin lifting and tightening effects for a non-surgical, minimally invasive alternative to the traditional face lift procedure. While the underlying support structures of the face are lifted using the threads, the skin is simultaneously stimulated to produce collagen, which promotes natural skin tightening and improves skin elasticity. It provides skin lifting through mechanical effect, cellular renewal through collagen stimulation, and neovascularization to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity.
  • Who is a Candidate for PDO Threads?
PDO thread lift is an effective, nonsurgical face-lifting treatment that is suitable for anyone (18+) looking to improve the appearance of sagging skin or undesirable skin texture. This treatment is suitable for those who want to attain immediate lift of the facial contours without undergoing a facelift surgery and extensive downtime. It is best suited for men and women who are unwilling to tolerate a long time of a facelift surgery but want to look refreshed and lifted naturally with minimal to no discomfort.
  • Is PDO Thread Lift Safe?
This treatment is definitely safe. Compared to fillers (widely used for aesthetic practice) the side effects are, in fact, much milder. PDO threads are inserted via cannulas/needles to stimulate collagen production and aid in instant lifting without the risks of vascular or arterial occlusion. Polydioxanone is the same suture material that is used in practice up to date for cardiac and orthopedic surgical procedures. PDO is an absorbable suture material.
  • Is PDO Thread Lift FDA-Approved?
Yes, PDO thread lifting procedure for face & body is an FDA approved treatment. Your practitioner must hold proper licensure and certification documentation to practice safely with noticeable results.
  • How Long do the Results Last?
With any aesthetic treatment, results vary depending on environmental and lifestyle differences. PDO threads generally last from 3 months – 18 months depending on thread, gauge, and area in which they are placed.
  • How Soon After BOTOX® and Fillers Can You Get PDO Thread Treatment in the Same Area?
The general rule is waiting 2 weeks after any treatment in the same area.
  • Will You Bruise/Swell After PDO Thread Lift Treatment?
Bruising and swelling is very common with any facial aesthetic procedure as the face is complexly vascular. To minimize the chances, we work with cannulas to prevent bruising and swelling as much as possible, but it is not entirely avoidable. Expect bruising and swelling with any facial aesthetic treatment. Plan your treatment in advance allowing yourself 2 weeks for swelling and bruising to subside. You may take over the counter ARNICA 1 week prior to your treatment to minimize the chances of bruising if it does not interfere with your current health condition and is cleared by your doctor.
  • How to Manage Discomfort After Treatment?
If you experience discomfort post treatment, you may take Tylenol if permitted by your doctor and if it does not interfere with your current health conditions. Icing will also help with any tension experienced for the first 2 weeks post treatment which is normal & to be expected. Avoiding pressure can minimize pain and discomfort.
  • What is the Downtime Associated with PDO Thread Lift?
Post treatment, it is recommended to avoid vigorous exercising for 3 weeks along with avoiding ANY/ALL pressure on treated area as it can alter your results. It takes 2-4 weeks for the threads to securely attach to tissue and any pressure can disrupt the results. Advised to sleep on your back to refrain from pressure on treated areas. Wash your face gently, use soap and water only for first 24 hours to minimize any chance of infection and pat dry (no rubbing). Avoid saunas, hot yoga, laser treatments (on face), facials, facial massages and the dentist (if treating cheek-jawline area) for 8-10 weeks.
  • Does it Hurt?
Prior to treatment patient will be anesthetized with lidocaine injection to assure optimal comfort. Mild pain and pressure may be present during and post treatment process.
